Arteriovenous Graft

  • Begin with an incision overlying the artery and vein.
  • The artery and vein are mobilized and proximally and distally controlled.
  • A 2-cm transverse incision is created in the distal forearm with skin flaps and a pocket for the loop part of the graft.
  • A tunnel is created and the graft is passed through the tunnel.
  • A longitudinal arteriotomy is made, and one spatulated end of the graft is anastomosed to the side of the artery, while the other is anastomosed to the side or end of the vein. 6-0 Prolene is frequently used for these anastomoses.
