Malrotation
- If midgut volvulus is present, the bowel mesentery is detorsed in a counterclockwise direction.
- The bowel should be inspected for viability, and frankly necrotic bowel should be resected.
- A Ladd procedure should be performed for correction of malrotation. This includes dividing Ladd bands, broadening the base of the mesenteric pedicle, and performing an appendectomy.
- At the completion of the procedure, the small bowel should be lie on the right side of the abdomen and the colon on the left side.
