Peritoneal Dialysis Catheter

  • 4 cm paramedian skin incision is made (reduces hernia & leak rate).
  • 2 cm incision through anterior & posterior sheath with small peritonotomy.
  • 4-0 PDS purse-string around peritonotomy then insert catheter with tip to the right of the rectum.
  • Close fascia with PDS around catheter and leave 1st cuff b/w fascial layers.
  • Create subcutaneous tunnel with 2nd Dacron cuff 1.5 cm beneath skin.
  • Flush with heparinized saline.
